The weather here has been beautiful. Warm and sunny with a light breeze, but not hot yet. Perfect biking weather. We decided to take Elliot out on his first real ride. He was happy for the most part. He didn't even mind his helmet on. We went about 10 miles (and for almost 2 hours) along the nice bike trail near here. At the end of the ride, though, Chris went over an unseen pothole and the big bump really scared Elliot. He then wouldn't stop crying until I carried him in my arms. Luckily we were only 5 minutes walk from the house.
Notes on the seat: We ended up with a Topeak bike seat (rather than iBert or Co-Pilot) after a few trials with each of these others. I like this one the best. It's sturdy and safe, and doesn't impair the adults' riding. (ie. I couldn't ride my bike with the iBert attached). The seat worked great, except for the fact that they only sell it with the attachment for disc brakes. It took a bit of engineering for Chris to adjust it to fit his bike, but it seems to work now.
