Food Frustrations

I don't know how to feed my baby real food. He refuses so much of what I offer. He won't pick up anything in pieces unless it's a dry bread product (cheerios, bread, toast, bagel, cracker, baby puffs). Won't pick up fruit, cooked veggies, tofu, beans, cheese, egg, pasta. Gags on banana.

He'll eat some pureed things (as long as there are no lumps) from a spoon I offer, like lentils, hummus, veggies, fruit, and occasionally yogurt with fruit. And does actually seem to like meat pureed with things. But he prefers food from jars over anything I make. I don't want to buy baby food, I want to make it.

Spits out (with a "are you trying to poison me?!" look on his face) egg, cheese (both melted and not, many different types), fruit and veggie pieces, pasta.

All of this made more frustrating by the fact that ALL of his friends eat really well, anything that their moms offer them, and pick up and try lots of different finger foods.

He really only wants milk. but my supply is going down. Looks like I'll have to buy formula. Maybe lots of it.

Arrrggh.

  1. That IS frustrating! When Chris was an infant, he accepted a variety of things early on (such as asparagus), then turned up his nose at many many things later. He was VERY picky, and I was concerned about his nutritional status. I think he's a good eater now! Pickiness may be driven by high sensitivity, and it might be more pronounced during other rapid developmental changes (such as climbing into cupboards!). That food pickiness is all the more difficult because you value serving him things you have made! Oh, the uncertainty of parenting....
